From birth to age six, children are sensorial explorers. And
in this basic growth process, they examine every aspect of their
environment, language, and culture. Around age six, we see them
develop into reasoning explorers. New forms of abstraction and
imagination are discovered as their very world expands. And during
this time, it is our goal to help them marry the concepts of acting
and thinking.
Five Oaks Academy will facilitate this learning process in three
separate classroom environments. The first level of educating
will be considered the Primary level - also known as the Acorns
- and will consist of students ages 3-6. We will teach these explorers
to learn by using all their senses. By joining touch, sight and
sound together, learning becomes a natural process to them at
this stage rather than a regimented activity that is forced upon
their developing minds.
The Elementary level - or Oak Leaves at Five Oaks Academy -
is broken into two age levels (Lower Elementary 4-6 and Upper
Elementary 7-12). As their thinking
develops and matures, the method for learning does also. They
learn by practical applications of real world problems. Plotting
gardens quickly turns into a math lesson and the leaf hunt in
the nature trail becomes a science lesson for the day. Lessons
are linked closely together, making learning a whole experience
rather than an isolated lesson.
All students will have the opportunity to broaden their learning
experience at Five Oaks Academy. Each classroom curriculum will
incorporate Spanish, Art, Music, and Physical Education programs, giving
each student a well-rounded education. And volunteer work will
be incorporated to give students a hands-on approach to community
service.
