Academics

Five Oaks Academy (FOA) stands alone in our area as the only Montessori school to offer a program accredited by the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) that serves children in grade levels Pre-Primary through Middle School.  Our program embodies rigorous academic instruction that is steeped in teaching interpersonal skills and personal development.  Interdependence between academics and social development is critical to offering our students opportunities to grow fully.  Addressing the whole child prepares our students for life.

The Montessori curriculum at Five Oaks Academy is more than just academics. It is an integration of academic subject areas with topics that also complement the development of children into world citizens. Teachers foster and build the skills of inquiry and research so that children become inspired to learn because they have access to the answers to their own questions. This empowerment is what offers momentum to learning at Five Oaks Academy. Coupled with inquiry and research are freedom and exploration. The students have freedom with limits which allows them to explore ideas and concepts that are truly interesting to them uniquely. Additional essential aspects of our curriculum also include integrated curriculum, assessment, social education, peace education, community service, and tolerance.

Belonging to the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) allows FOA students to have many opportunities such as courses and team building for student government as well as some athletic competitions in individual and team sports, depending on the school’s facilities. A variety of extracurricular activities are available including: Science Fair, Spelling Bee, Battle of the Books, Chess Tournament, Math Meet, Quiz Bowl, Literary Meet, Music Festival, and the Art and Photography Show.
